Have you read about the 7.0 earthquake on the coast of Northern California?
That was a part of the subduction zone fault system that runs along the coast from Northern California up through Washington’s coast. Go to this link for some detailed information on that event: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc75095651/executive
A major subduction zone earthquake (a 9.0 earthquake with a resultant coastal water tsunami) is the model that the authorities use for their preparation. Your FICRA Fox Island Emergency Preparedness (FIEP) team uses that as our base model, too. ‘The Plan’ for managing a major event on Fox Island is on this website under the About Us tab. Read it!
When we become aware of an event like the Northern California earthquake we should think about our own level of preparedness: batteries still good?, generator tested? (unless you are one of the few that stays on schedule to check that). Just do it!
FIEP continues to test our response system, and we learn more with each drill. Our strength is responding as a coordinated team. You can volunteer to be a part of that effort. Go to the Get Involved tab above. Thank you for your continued support of the FICRA Fox Island Emergency Preparedness Team
The 'Prepare in a Year' monthly advisory column will be continued for 2025. The link to that is here:
